HELEN DARLING
I am a photographer and printmaker based in Central Otago, New Zealand - I use both traditional printmaking (linoprinting) and photography to portray the natural beauty that surrounds us.
My 'happy place' is either behind my camera at dawn or dusk; chasing birds with a long lens on the back of a boat; or in the studio drawing and carving.
Both photography and printmaking require an engagement with the subject.
My printmaking process is traditional - starting with a drawing I determine how ink will be applied to the final block, invert the image, carve, check, carve, check and finally print. I always use archival inks and papers.
My artwork and photography can be found in private collections throughout NZ, in Australia, the UK, the US and China. The boring bit.
I once did a doctorate in Public Health because it seemed like a good idea, turns out, it was.
